IU High School is a leader in the innovation and implementation of online learning in secondary education, and is committed to continually developing, implementing and refining its pedagogical approach as technology grows learners' needs shift and change.
What makes IU High School different?
We face technology head-on
As rapid technological advancements and ever-present networked online spaces change the way people communicate in everyday life, many formal educational institutions and supports are recognizing that this kind of networked interaction is changing the way learners enter a classroom.
IU High School draws on the resources and expertise housed within the gates of Indiana University, collaborating with some of the world’s foremost thinkers and researchers on learning to continually develop and refine our rigorous coursework.
We react to the rapidly changing education landscape
IU High School recognizes that we live in a time when information is user-centered, and the co-production of information is not only common, it is expected. This means that learners are walking through classroom doors—or opening their laptops or unlocking their phones—with expectations about learning that differ greatly from those that their teachers grew up with or were trained for. As such, IU High School draws on the resources and expertise housed within the gates of Indiana University, collaborating with some of the world's foremost thinkers and researchers on learning to continually develop and refine our rigorous coursework.
We lead innovation
IU High School is continually refining its curricula rather than deploying packaged lessons because Indiana University is, by design, a research institution that is developing, testing, revising, and understanding ways to teach and learn. As a part of that institution, IU High School has an obligation lead the innovation and implementation of online learning in secondary education while adhering to our principles and providing students with relevant, useful, and usable educational opportunities. Therefore, as a high school embedded in a public research university, IU High School has the ability and the responsibility to offer the necessary supports for developing, implementing, and refining rigorous and engaging learning opportunities that help build the strategies for navigating a networked world, and offer personally meaningful educational experiences.
