Checklist for IUHS Seniors

If you are an Indiana University High School diploma student planning to attend college next fall as a freshman, you are a senior! You are a senior if you have completed 28 credits (33 if you are working on the academic honors diploma).

Because you are a senior, this year is different. Graduation is around the corner, and you want to be sure to complete all of your course work (including exams) in plenty of time. You should plan to register for your last credits in time to complete your finals by June 10 at the latest. If you need help planning a schedule, contact an IUHS advisor for suggestions.

Below are checklists for fall, winter, and spring. As you check items off, give yourself a big pat on the back!

Fall

• Visit colleges where you are applying.

• Attend local college fairs.
• Request applications from colleges of your choice, or get them online.
• Apply to colleges no later than Thanksgiving for best results.
• Check for online help for writing any college essays.
• Call or email an IUHS advisor to double-check that you are meeting the graduation requirements for the diploma you are seeking.
• If you are an athlete and will play at the college level, make sure all of your course work is NCAA-approved and that it meets NCAA standards. Check the NCAA Web site for eligibility standards.
• If you haven't already taken the SAT or the ACT, you need to register online and take the test as early as possible this fall. Go to www.collegeboard.com for the SAT and to www.actstudent.org for the ACT. You must enter the IUHS school code on your registration blank in order for your test results to appear on your transcript. The code is 150219.
  

Winter

• Complete your FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The FAFSA is available after January 1. This is the Free Application for Student Aid, and it's the doorway to any scholarship for which you may apply at the college of your choice.

• Send an email to Roxanne Seger at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it if you need a mid-year grade report sent to your college.

• By mid-January, make sure you have completed at least half of the credits that you hoped to complete your senior year.
• Check online resources (only the free ones) for scholarship information.
  

Spring

• March 1 is the FAFSA deadline. Applications postmarked after this date will not be considered.
• By May 1, let colleges you won't be attending know about your decision.
